Seascape – Red Sunset

Seascape painting by Steve Driver

Seascape - Red Sunset

Recently I did a commission where the client wanted a predominantly black and white seascape painting with a splash of red; low light and stormy clouds.

With such a simple brief I was left with a lot of scope for creation but decided to keep it fairly straightforward.

I used acrylic paint to produce the basic black and white composition and finished off with glazing the sunset with red oil paint and medium.

The acrylics with their quick drying properties forced me to work rapidly and produce a painting with a lot of movement and flow. I normally use oils and like to take my time but in this case I had to come out of my comfort zone and work fast, but I am happy with the end result and more importantly so was the client.
